About Us

Transformational Yoga is a Yoga Alliance registered school, located in Paris, France

The idea for Transformational Yoga started from a journey to the East and the evolution of a student to teacher to trainer. Inspired by a trip to India to train in advanced Yoga and Meditation teachings, Gillian Grant returned to Paris determined to create a Yoga training style that offers a traditional practice with a modern twist.

Yoga is constantly transforming to adapt to the needs of the practitioner. New styles have developed out of ancient teachings and this has allowed Yoga to continue to thrive. Transformational Yoga is based on the belief that a training can offer the best of both traditional and modern that will prepare a new teacher to offer more than one style and adapt to the modern student's needs. The training is adapted to allow for exploration, discovery, and strong personal development, both physically and mentally.

Starting with group classes, Transformational Yoga has expanded to workshops, and affordable yoga teacher trainings in Paris, France. Most recently, we have expanded to international retreats. Our students and trainees come from all over the world. You can find all of the info within the pages of this website. Matthieu Waddell

Originally from the USA,

I started yoga as a hobby. During a trip to India, a "chance" encounter with a yoga teacher changed my life forever. Unknowingly, it was the beginning of a wonderful journey into the world of yoga.

I was trained in classical Hatha Yoga (TTC and ATTC) by the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in South India.
I am also a certified Yoga Nidra teacher having received my Certificat d’Etudes Pratiques de Yoga Nidra from Satyananda Ashram in Paris. In addition, I have studied Indian vegetarian cooking with several ayurvedic doctors.

My yoga classes are energetic, fun and accessible to all students. For me, yoga is not just about the physical posture, it's a way of life.

I'm originally from Israel and my parents are Indian. I’ve always been passionate about Bollywood dance. One of my first childhood memories is dancing at home to Indian music that my parents used to play. I was 4 years old!

I was a Bollywood dancer in Israel for 10 years, as part of a live performance group called "Sapna", which means "dream" in Hindi.

I am very attached to my parents’ roots. They were part of the small Jewish community in Mumbai and immigrated in the 60’s. I feel deeply connected to everything related to Indian culture, Ayurveda, Yoga, Bollywood dance, Indian cuisine, Music and Art.

I have also studied Ayurveda and yoga in India and Israel and I keep on studying and exploring other ways of practicing yoga.

I now am a Ayurveda massage therapist, give private yoga lessons and Bollywood fitness. During my Bollywood fitness lessons I love sharing the experience of joy of dancing and fitness through the lens of Bollywood fun and happiness.

Testimonials

"Gillian was my very first teacher. She subbed a class and from then on I followed her to her regular classes. She taught me to fly in my very first arm balance - crow pose. This tall and willowy person is surprisingly strong and inspires her students to try all the poses in her sequences, despite how difficult they may look to the untrained eye; through clear instructions. She is also my Barre au Sol and Ballet Barre instructor and her classes have literally changed my body. Thanks to her I am bordering on the 4-minute plank, an unbelievable achievement for me. Her playlists are dope, too. Gillian has brought me a long way." - Marie B.

"Our training program was thorough, well thought out and well organized. I feel that we were given all of the necessary tools and training needed to become successful yoga teachers, whether or not we wanted to pursue it as a career or just deepen our yoga practice. The time spent on philosophy and anatomy was exceptionally helpful. We learned about a variety of styles and were encouraged to find our own teaching style and personality. I also enjoyed our focus on teaching practice and helping out in public classes giving adjustments. The attention given to adjustments, modifications and contraindications was thorough and will allow us to teach classes safely. Above all this was an amazing and transformative experience and I absolutely feel ready to begin to teach thanks to Gillian and the help from the other teachers throughout the training."

- Sarah G.

Transformation YTT 200h:

“I did my 200h YTT with Transformation Yoga; Gillian Grant was the lead trainer on our course. I highly recommend the Transformational Yoga teacher training both for the quality and depth of the course as well as for its openness. The course covered a wide range of topics associated with wellbeing and enabled us in particular to delve deeper into how yoga and the anatomy are intrinsically linked. Having compared other courses, it feels like the Transformational Yoga programme places more of an emphasis on the foundations of yoga and understanding the anatomy than other courses do. What is particularly good about Transformational Yoga teacher training is that we are encouraged to delve into different styles (not only hatha and vinyasa) so that we can decide for ourselves what we’d like to specialize in after the training. Gillian’s expertise in the area of alignment in the asana laboratory sessions enabled us to really understand each asana in detail. What really made the Transformational Yoga teacher training very transferable, is that we practice teaching (in short sessions of 10-20 minutes) our fellow trainees all the way through, so you leave the course feeling like you have the skills to teach. The intensive schedule means that you are totally immersed in yoga and yoga theory for 8 weeks, but as a result you feel enriched and stimulated with all the knowledge you are picking up. Yoga teacher training in such a small group atmosphere is a transformational experience and I would recommend Transformational Yoga’s training programme for anyone thinking of taking the course, either to deepen your knowledge of yoga or with a view to teaching”.

Gillian:

“I’ve been taking classes with Gillian in Paris for a few years now, starting with Kundalini yoga and then also taking her hatha classes (and now a graduate of her yoga teacher training programme). Gillian brings light, humour and a twist to our lessons. She creatively fuses elements of power yoga and other styles, whilst retaining the traditional discipline of hatha, encouraging us to hold the postures and to find stillness in our practice. Her classes are spiritual, starting and ending with a mantra, and finishing off with a deep relaxation. I love Gillian’s classes – they push me further in my practice, they ground me, and I feel stronger and more at peace afterwards. Gillian makes people feel at ease with her friendly teaching style and clear instructions which cater for various levels. Come and try her classes, you’ll be hooked!” - Sara
